Sounds of the Holidays Performance Stage

Presented by:   The BC Artisan Marketing Society

Enjoy artistic interpretations of the holiday season with live performances by local musicians, dancers, & entertainers. Enjoy carols, Christmas music, dance, classic scores and so much more from these talented bands, quartets to acapella groups and more.

Each year, the Sounds of the Holidays Performance Stage at the West Coast Christmas Show has served as the undisputed showcase of the fantastic instrumental, choral, dance and artistic expression that abounds in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia.

A wide variety of local bands, orchestras, choral groups, dancers, and individual artists have returned to the stage year after year to highlight their individual and collective talents to the thousands of visitors flocking to the Christmas Show. The continuous performances by over four hundred talented performers have become the focal point for show visitors as they delight on The Sounds of The Holidays Performance Stage.

Peace Arch Chorus

Peace Arch Chorus is a group of energetic and enthusiastic women, who love to sing a cappella! A group of vibrant women of all ages and diverse singing backgrounds, dedicated to singing barbershop harmony. This year the chorus is celebrating 50 years of singing in harmony! The ladies have competed in many competitions over the years and have won the hearts of audiences, as well as many medals.

Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers

The Central Fraser Valley Fiddlers, have been promoting traditional fiddle music since 1973. Although they hold monthly meetings and weekly practices in Abbotsford, members come from as far as Hope and Vancouver, and range widely in age. Located in the Central Fraser Valley, which consists of Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack to Hope, this area of the Fraser Valley is enriched with agriculture, arts and attractions. The Fraser Valley follows the path of the mighty Fraser River through this beautiful strip of land that extends northeast from Langley to Lillooet. Their aim is to maintain and promote traditional Canadian fiddle and folk music, through the encouragement of young and old alike, to develop their musical talents, to develop warm friendships, and most of all, to have fun and laugh, and enjoy the tunes they play.

Yale Secondary School

Yale Secondary School Band is a group of grade 9-12 students directed by Mercedes Sergeant.

MEI Concert Choir

The MEI Concert Choir sings a wide range of choral literature, specializing in a cappella singing.  The choir, comprised of grades 10, 11 and 12 students, along with their director, Dean Wedel, are working up another great season of performances, at a variety of performance venues and events. The Christmas season always brings lots of performances for this choir, and MEI’s other choirs. The Concert Choir has toured many places in Canada and the USA over the years.

MEI Renaissance Singers

The MEI Renaissance Singers, are one of MEI’s Chamber Choirs. Aptly named the ‘Renaissance’ Singers, this choir of grade 9’s and 10’s, sing a wide selection of styles of music. They rehearse once or twice a week for a portion of the year . . . unfortunately at 7:00 in the morning. Their performance schedule has usually included a few Christmas Concerts (including the annual MEI Christmas Concert, a couple of spring performances and a fantastic spring weekend trip to Vancouver for a series of Gospel Music workshops in second semester. They are excited to be performing here for you at the West Coast Christmas Show, as they kick off their Christmas season of performances.

AzestA School of Ballet

AzestA Ballet Studio presents:    “The Little Match Girl”

Directed by:  Elizabeth Lisa  RAD RTS

AzestA School of Ballet is a local dance school in Abbotsford. Their mission is to develop a great love of dance through solid foundations. Directed by, Ms. Elizabeth Lisa, students are guided and taught through their dance journey. Dancers of all levels are invited to join the school, which promotes confidence, discipline, technique, quality and knowledge of dance at an elite level.

MEI Chamber Singers

Joining us for three performances: 10:00am, 11:00am, & 12 Noon

The MEI Chamber Singers is the most requested and busiest choir at MEI. 12 of MEI’s best singers become a team of incredible talent as they have a demanding concert schedule – especially now at Christmas. The Chamber Singers have performed in many festivals including the illustrious invitational Festivals of Gold in Washington, Anaheim, New York and Chicago and recently winning Top A Vocal Jazz group at the prestigious Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival in Idaho! The Chamber Singers and their director are excited to be kicking off their Christmas season right here at the West Coast Christmas Show!

Royal City Youth Ballet

The Royal City Youth Ballet Company is a unique society of young people gathered together to do what they love to do – classical ballet. These youngsters attend weekly company classes at their individual dance schools and meet every weekend to attend company classes and rehearse full length ballets. Students grow and develop through exposure to many teaching styles and through opportunities for performance.

This Christmas season experiences the magic of The Nutcracker, with RCYB’s full length ballet, featuring a cast of 100+ dedicated and enthusiastic dancers, under the direction of Camilia Fishwick-Kellog. Performing to Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s beautiful music, this traditional ballet has beautiful sets designed by Jean Claude Olivier and extravagant, colourful costumes by Chris Sinosich.

There are magical soldiers, mice, a Sugar Plum fairy and a growing Christmas tree, all danced to the beautiful music of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker score. With snowflakes, Snow King and Queen, Waltz of the Flowers, Arabian, Spanish and other favourites. Find more details about this show on their website.

Langley Sr. A & B Ukulele Ensemble

The group’s motto is ‘Enriching Lives Through Music’. The members of the Langley Ukulele Ensemble are challenged to strive towards excellence in musical performance and to use music as a vehicle through which they can be role models and leaders amongst their peers. The group members see themselves as musical ambassadors for Canada, British Columbia, Langley, as well as for youth.

Cascade Christmas Brass

Cascade Christmas Brass is an ensemble of Brass players from local schools and churches who come together to share the joy of Christmas music.

Joy Vox Community Choir

Started in September, 2001 Joy Vox Community Choir has been singing up a storm at several venues throughout the lower mainland. From Christmas concerts, charity events to festivals and even coffee houses this versatile choir can sing anywhere. Their repertoire varies from chamber music, African rhythms, gospel, folk songs to whatever else catches their fancy. Always up for a challenge they have created their own arrangements for some of their favourite songs. The talented people in this choir come from all walks of life. Their common bond being the music and their love of singing. Never afraid to try something new and always ready to expand their abilities. New members are always welcome at the beginning of seasons. Cascadia Wind Ensemble

Cascadia Wind Ensemble was formed in 2013 to give adult and youth musicians an opportunity for performance of great concert band repertoire. The group is made up of accomplished musicians from the Fraser Valley, ages 10 to 80, under the direction of Shannon Goldsmith. Cascadia performs a wide variety of musical works including classical transcriptions, traditional band repertoire, Broadway and other show tunes, popular band pieces, marches, commissioned works, and so on. The group has played concerts with rave reviews in Mission, Hope, Langley, Chilliwack, Maple Ridge and Rosedale.

Westcoast Harmony Chorus

Westcoast Harmony Chorus is an all female a cappella chorus with over 50 members of varying ages, who love to sing a cappella, primarily in the barbershop style. They rehearse every Wednesday evening in Surrey, BC, learning new, challenging repertoire, from traditional barbershop to contemporary pop and rock arrangements. They are a member of Sweet Adelines International and in 2013, they were named the best mid-sized chorus in the world! Their weekly rehearsals are led by Master Director, Anne Downton, the baritone of Frenzy, the 2017 International Quartet Champions! Every rehearsal is guaranteed to be fun, challenging, and a high-level group vocal lesson! We invite women in the lower mainland to get in touch with us and learn more about singing a cappella.

Valley Echoes Chorus

Valley Echoes Chorus sings a Cappella (unaccompanied) four part harmony, predominantly in the barbershop style. Their musical selections range from Current Contemporary to Traditional. They perform in the local community as they have opportunity. BUT, they are not just a performance chorus – they also compete, each spring, in a Regional Competition against other chorus’ from BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan. This competition can be anywhere in the Region.
